Advancing ICM - expanding the experience

“What if ICM isn’t the destination, but just a point along the journey?”

Welcome to a New Series: Advancing ICM

In my first series of articles, ICM Unlocked, I explored the core foundations of Intentional Camera Movement. From its historical roots to key concepts, mindset, and the challenges of working within this abstract art form, the aim was simple: to open the door to what ICM can offer.

For those starting out - or looking to deepen their understanding- it provides a solid grounding in traditional ICM practices. And that grounding matters. Because before we can move beyond the boundaries of ICM, we first need to understand where those boundaries lie.

Advancing ICM is the logical next step.

In this new series, I’ll build on those foundations to explore more advanced ideas and techniques developed through my own work - approaches designed to expand creative expression and bring greater nuance and intention to your images.

If you are looking to push your creative photography further, this series is for you.

So what can you expect?

I’ll begin the series with a technique that bridges the structure of traditional photography and the fluid abstraction of ICM. This is an approach that completely changed my perspective on ICM and one I use without second thought to this day.

From there, we’ll move into areas that push even further beyond conventional ICM, including multiple-exposure blends and discuss some of the principles behind my gallery work.

But this series is about more than technique.

It’s about realigning your mindset, discovering new creative possibilities, and evolving your photography into something uniquely your own.

Stay tuned for the first episode.
