Presentation announcement - ‘Mindful ICM’

Mindful ICM – Gateway Camera Club

I’m delighted and honored to have been invited to present my experiences with ICM to members of the Gateway Camera Club in Framingham, Massachusetts.

Established over 60 years ago, Gateway Camera Club offers its members a diverse program of educational evenings, field trips and, of course, competitions. I’m looking forward to being part of that program on October 27th.

Preparing for presentations such as this is always an introspective process. It encourages me to look back at where my own ICM journey began and to consider just how much the artform has evolved since those early explorations.

I believe ICM has matured considerably. Our understanding of the variables involved has grown, as has the range of techniques available to photographers. Images that may once have been regarded as the fortunate result of experimentation can now be created with considerably greater intent and control.

That evolution forms the basis of my presentation.

At its heart will be ‘Mindful ICM’ — a more thoughtful approach to the process that seeks to replace chance with control and hope with crafted outcomes.

We’ll also look beyond what might traditionally be considered ICM, exploring techniques and approaches that extend its creative possibilities. For me, this isn’t about defining what ICM should be, but about considering what it could become — and how pushing creative boundaries can help each of us develop our own artistic direction.

After many years of exploring, experimenting, succeeding, failing and occasionally discovering something unexpected, I’m looking forward to sharing some of those experiences with the members of Gateway Camera Club.
