influencers - Pep Ventosa

Following a review of my recent works it would be impossible to discount the influence of Pep Ventosa, a photographer famous for his creative work using multiple exposures.

It is only in the past few years that I discovered Pep’s work - initially from work found on a hotel wall that I absolutely adored (the artist unknown at that time). I later came across the same image online, coming to discover not just the artist but an amazing array of fresh and creative work that I just fell in love with.

About the Artist

Pep Ventosa’s work is focused on an exploration of the photographic image; finding new visual experiences in photography. His photographs have been exhibited across the world and received numerpous awards.

A Catalan, Ventosa was born in 1957 in Vilafranca del Penedès (Barcelona), Spain and currently lives near San Francisco.

Source of inspiration

Pep’s work expands beyond the boundaries of what could be considered traditional photography, in some cases going as far as to mix images found online to create new and interesting scenes (his ‘Street Rhythms’). The technique that has most captured my imagination and provided inspiration for much of my later work is what he identifies as ‘in the round’. This is a technique that Pep developed, taking a large number of images around a central subject and then blending together. to create an impressionistic effect.

Pep’s inspiration has had a major influencer on the work I have produced since that discovery. After studying the foundations of his techniques I have since incorporated the same into much of my own work, using those foundations as a springboard to explore and expand to fulfill my own creative needs.
